No, I don’t mean Jack Palance. The Bright-rumped attila (Attila spadiceus) has a great name that rolls beautifully off the tongue. It doesn’t seem to be quite as aggressive as its name suggests. It’s my bird of the week because I finally managed to get a good view of one in the garden. Normally I just hear it calling loudly from afar, mostly down at San Diego. Karel Straatman’s photo is from elsewhere in Costa Rica and gives a good frontal view that also lets you see the big-headed look that is characteristic of this flycatcher. In an earlier post I have showed the yellowish rump on a bird we banded down at CATIE in Turrialba where it is frequently to be found.
